At a mutual friend’s BBQ in Riverside Park, NYC. We were both dating other people at the time but ended up on the same football team. I was team captain and picked the tallest person (Chris.) We won but still didn’t really hit it off…until he friended me on facebook the next day. Four months later and both newly single, we went on our first date.
2) How did he pop the question?
While travelling in New Zealand, we stumbled upon Waireinga Falls- aka Bridal Veil Falls- a breathtaking plunge waterfall. We were the only people in the entire park. We hiked down a bit, and at the middle deck that overlooked the falls, Chris set up his camera tripod and asked me to stand by the water. He pressed the camera button and ran to stand next to me…except, when I turned to look, he wasn’t there.
“What are you doing?” I yelled, “The camera’s about to take the picture!” I looked over, and then down, where he was fumbling with something on the ground. It didn’t register for me what he was doing, and I urged (yelled) at him again. (There was a lot more yelling in the truest version of the story.)
Chris was on his knee with a box, and I was still slightly confused, “Wait…Are you just posing for the camera?” He just smiled. “Are you…what is happening?! Is this for real?!” Chris managed to get 3 words in, but I said YES, and we hugged and made out, and tried to get a wi-fi signal to tell everyone.
(Chris later recited to me what his proposal should’ve sounded like 🙂
3) If you could both relocate anywhere in the world – where would it be?
Ideally, Hawaii. But in general, anywhere tropical and non-permanent. In another life, we’d be nomads travelling the world.
4) What is your favorite memory together?
Riding a moped on a cliff along the western coast of Phuket- one of the most exhilarating experiences ever!
5) What’s one thing that drew you to your significant other?
Danielle: His pliability. He’s always seeking to become a better version of himself.
Chris: Danielle is the kindest person I know (besides her mother). She is always there for her friends and family, and does not think twice about making sacrifices for other people. She has an insatiable desire to help others which is something I always admired.
6) If you both were shrunken down to nickel size, and dropped into the bottom of a blender, what would you do?
Cry. Accept our fate. And have a dance party. In that order.
