Accessorizing Your Wedding

When you think about accessories you can easily become overwhelmed and you may find yourself at a loss on where to begin. This article will help you to break down accessory options in four areas.

Color

Dress colors are typically many different shades of ivory, white or beige. Whichever color your gown is you need to make sure that the jewelry you choose doesn’t contrast with it but compliments the color. Pure white gowns work well with silver, platinum and white gold while beige fabrics work better with gold and shades of yellow. The best advice would be to try on your jewelry with the dress and if it feels right to you, go with it.

Dress Style

If your dress is simple and understated you have more room for bolder accessories including jewelry, clutch, hairstyles and nail color. Pick a bold colored clutch such as a vibrant hue you may have chosen in your wedding them for a dramatic effect or opt for a neutral tone for a more classic wedding theme. Hairstyles can also be bolder with clips, bun rings and tiaras. However, if you have an elaborate gown with a lot of details its better to dress down on the accessories, try delicate pearls or a small teardrop necklace. Lace gowns or delicate gossamer fabric should also be weary of ornate shoes with jewels or rhinestones as they can catch and snag the delicate fabric.

Season

Seasons are a major factor in accessories. Winter is cold, so a shawl is an important necessity because you don’t want to cover up with any ol’ sweater as the evening gets colder and you also don’t want to walk around feeling cold and suffering. We suggest finding a shawl or cover up to go with your wedding gown in every season except for summer but you know your climate best.  If you choose a shawl avoid bracelets and opt for dangling earrings to draw attention upward. Summer means heat and sweat and that equals sticky jewelry. Avoid necklaces during the hottest months as they will likely stick on your skin and fall unnaturally. This season is perfect for up do’s and those can be decorated ornately with jewels or headpieces. Consider carrying a traditional hand fan or parasol if you’ll be outdoors, it’s beautiful and useful. Spring means color and life and why not incorporate that into your wedding accessories and think about adding flowers to your hair springtime means the chance for showers so think about adding an umbrella or a wellies theme for your bridal party.

Day vs. Night

Daytime weddings are generally more casual and informal while nighttime wedding affairs tend to be more formal and elegant. If you’re wedding will be in the day remember that the lighting will play a huge role in your appearance. If your gown has jewels, beading or any glittering details it will be appear very minimal in the daytime but will sparkle at night so if you’re wearing jewelry be sure to note that evening jewelry should be minimal and muted but daytime jewelry can be more eye catching and sparkly.

Overall, accessorizing your wedding day is not without it’s confusion above all you should think about what is necessary and what is optional and then build your collection based on that.
